ten months missing Christmas, birthdays, and anniversaries. They
understandably wanted to go home. I was not sure how to go about
helping them, so I went to Stephen with the problem. When we got on
board and took a look at the crew list we realized that the young man
who had come to me was actually a deck cadet. He was supposed to be
learning how to be an officer but instead was in the kitchen washing
dishes! We had a word with the ships manager who was also on board
and eventually the problem was sorted out. The cadet was taken out of
the kitchen and the crew eventually went home. It was disheartening
for me to see how these seafarers were being taken advantage of, and I
